Ogden, Utah Schools: A Parent's Guide for Homebuyers

by Jim Vaughan

For many parents, choosing a home also means thinking about schools, the drive to school, and the daily routine a new neighborhood will create.

Ogden has its own school district. Ogden School District's boundary follows Ogden's city limits, and Weber School District serves the rest of Weber County. Inside the city, the district runs 10 elementary schools, three junior highs, two comprehensive high schools and George Washington High, an alternative high school. Which school a child attends depends on the home's exact address and the current school boundaries.

As a Realtor serving Ogden, I help families research local schools, verify school boundaries, and find homes that match their priorities, lifestyle and budget.

How Grades Are Split in Ogden School District

If you're moving from another state or relocating with the military, the grade setup may be different from what you're used to. Elementary school is kindergarten through 6th grade, junior high is 7th through 9th grade, and high school is 10th through 12th grade.

One tip: an "Ogden" mailing address doesn't always mean Ogden School District. Many homes in nearby cities and unincorporated parts of Weber County also use an Ogden mailing address but are in Weber School District. Check the school district by the home's exact location, not the city on the mailing address.

Elementary Schools in Ogden

All Ogden School District elementary schools serve kindergarten through 6th grade.

Ogden School District has closed or replaced several older elementary schools in recent years. Bonneville Elementary closed at the end of the 2024–25 school year. If an older listing or map shows a school that's no longer on the district's list, such as Bonneville, James Madison, T.O. Smith or Taylor Canyon, confirm the current assignment with the district.

Junior High Schools

Ogden's junior highs serve 7th through 9th grade.

High Schools

Ogden's high schools serve 10th through 12th grade.

The district also lists Malan's Peak, a youth-in-care program, among its secondary schools.

Charter School in Ogden

Charter schools have their own application, enrollment and lottery procedures. Parents should contact each school directly about openings, deadlines and transportation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ogden Schools

Which school will my child attend?

Assignments are set by the property address and Ogden School District's attendance boundaries. Enter the address in the district's Find My School tool, or check the District School Boundary Map and School Feeder Pattern on the district's Boundary Maps & School List page. You can also call the district at 801-737-7300.

Which Ogden school is the best?

No single school is the best fit for every child. Parents weigh different things, such as programs, special-education services, activities, transportation, distance from home and their child's individual needs. Official school information is available on the Utah School Report Card, and visiting the school and talking with staff and other parents helps too.

Can my child attend a school outside our assigned boundary?

Possibly. Ogden School District may approve boundary exceptions depending on school capacity and current district policy. Approval is not guaranteed, and parents may be responsible for transportation.

Can school boundaries change?

Yes. Ogden School District completed a school boundary study in 2023 as it closed, rebuilt and consolidated schools. Check the current boundary for any home you're considering.
