Living in Plain City, Utah
Plain City sits on the open west side of Weber County, with Farr West to the east and Marriott-Slaterville to the south. It is one of the fastest-growing towns in northern Utah: the U.S. Census counted 7,833 residents in 2020 and estimates about 9,256 as of July 2025. Here's what living in Plain City looks like, from its farm-town history to schools, parks, commutes and new homes.
A Farm Town With Deep Roots
Plain City was settled in 1859 by a group led by Lorin Farr, made up of farmers from Lehi and Kay's Creek (now Kaysville), and was incorporated in 1944. The original townsite was laid out in a grid of five-acre blocks, each divided into four lots, a pattern you can still see around Town Square today.
Plain City is also the hometown of a trucking legacy. In 1920, farmer Chester Rodney England bought a Model T truck to haul farm goods, including milk, and started what became C.R. England. A former C.R. England driver, Carl Moyes, started a leasing business in Plain City in the late 1950s that later grew into Swift Transportation, and Pride Transport (1979) and Knight Transportation (1990) also trace their roots to Plain City families.

Plain City is part of Weber School District. According to the city, schools serving Plain City include:

High school students can also take classes at Ogden-Weber Technical College. Boundaries shift as the area grows, so always confirm a home's assigned schools with Weber School District.
Parks and Community Traditions
Plain City's parks include Lee Olsen Park, with large and small pavilions and a splash pad, plus Lions Club Park, Pioneer Park, Town Square, ball diamonds and a rodeo arena. Boweries can be reserved through the city for family gatherings, and the city runs rec sports programs.
The biggest event of the year is the Fourth of July Celebration, centered on Town Square, with a parade, a junior rodeo and a full schedule published each year in the city's Patriot News. In the fall, the Pumpkin Walk draws crowds, and the season wraps up with a Christmas Parade. The city is also home to the Plain City Pops Orchestra and a Senior Center available to rent.
Getting Around
State Route 134 (2600 North) heads east from Plain City through Farr West to I-15, and Census data puts the average commute at about 23 minutes. The drive to Hill Air Force Base is about 25 to 30 minutes, depending on the gate you use. If you're stationed at Hill, I'm glad to time the drive from any home to your gate.
For weekends on the water, Willard Bay State Park is reached from I-15 at exit 351 (South Marina) or exit 357 (North Marina).
City Services
Bona Vista Water Improvement District supplies drinking water. Secondary (sprinkler) water can come from a different provider depending on the property, so confirm it before you close. Plain City runs its own fire station, and police service comes from the Weber County Sheriff's Office. City Hall is at 4160 West 2200 North, (801) 731-4908, and the city shares news through its Peny app.
Homes and New Construction
About 96 percent of Plain City homes are owner-occupied, according to the Census. You'll find older homes on larger lots near Town Square alongside newer neighborhoods. Much of today's new construction is at JDC Ranch, where the Grove, Orchards and Creekside neighborhoods are adding single-family homes, and D.R. Horton's Sage Creek community at 4325 W 3575 N is listed as "coming soon," with lots of about three-quarters of an acre and no HOA.
