Living in Harrisville, Utah

by Jim Vaughan

A Pioneer Town Built on Brick

Urban Stewart built the first house in Harrisville in 1850. A year later, Martin Henderson Harris built a log home, more settlers followed, and the town took his name. Brickmaking became the signature local industry, and the city notes a brickyard operated until 2012. Harrisville incorporated on April 9, 1962, and became a city on January 30, 1964, when it had 867 residents. Today it is home to about 7,150 people on roughly 3 square miles northwest of Ogden.

Schools

Harrisville is in Weber School District. Majestic Elementary and Orion Junior High, which opened in 2003, are inside the city, and Pioneer Elementary in Marriott-Slaterville also serves Harrisville families. Depending on address, students attend Orion Junior High or Wahlquist Junior High in Farr West, then Weber High School in Pleasant View or Fremont High School in Plain City. Boundaries can change, so always confirm a home's assigned schools on the Weber School District boundary maps.

Harrisville Main Park

Harrisville Main Park, at 1350 North Highway 89, packs a lot into one stop. The fishing pond is stocked with rainbow trout about four times a year (anglers 12 and older need a Utah fishing license). There is a summer splash pad, a disc golf course (discs are available to rent through Parks and Recreation), tennis courts, playgrounds and a bowery residents can reserve. Independence Park and Millennium Park add walking tracks, and the city offers community garden boxes at the City Offices on Independence Boulevard.

A Year of Hometown Events

Harrisville keeps a full community calendar: an Easter Egg Hunt, Movies in the Parks, a Fall Festival, Shop with a Hero, the Harrisville Giving Tree, and Santa at the Cabin at the Martin Henderson Harris Bicentennial Cabin on Harrisville Road. Residents can also reserve the cabin year-round.

From Golf Course to New Neighborhood

For 62 years, Ben Lomond Golf Course sat along US-89 in Harrisville until it closed in December 2018. The property is becoming Ben Lomond Views, a master plan the City Council approved in 2021 for up to 664 single-family homes, townhomes and condos, with seven small parks and open space, built in phases. Nearby, D.R. Horton is selling new Dixon Creek Townhomes with three- and four-bedroom plans.

Getting Around

Harrisville residents average about 21 minutes to work. US-89 runs through the city south into Ogden, and 2700 North is the main route west to I-15 from the north side of town. Ogden Central Station is the nearest FrontRunner stop. Hill Air Force Base is about 25–30 minutes away, depending on which gate you use, which makes Harrisville a practical choice for military buyers and civilian base employees. Homes here use both the 84404 and 84414 ZIP codes, and many mailing addresses say "Ogden," so I always confirm which city a home is actually in.

Who Harrisville Fits

If you're a first-time buyer looking at new townhomes, moving up, downsizing or relocating on PCS orders to Hill Air Force Base, Harrisville offers established neighborhoods, new construction and a short drive into Ogden. Thinking About a Move to Harrisville?

I'm Jim Vaughan with Vaughan Realty | Real Broker, LLC. I live nearby in Pleasant View and have lived in Northern Utah for more than 45 years. I've been helping clients buy and sell homes since 2018, and I list homes for sellers and represent buyers across Weber County, including many Hill Air Force Base military families. Browse current Harrisville homes for sale, ask me for a free home valuation, or schedule a private tour. I'd be glad to show you around.
