Living in Pleasant View, Utah: A Local's Guide to Parks, Trails and Community Life

by Jim Vaughan

I've lived in Northern Utah for more than 45 years, and Pleasant View is home. The city sits on the northern edge of Weber County, under Ben Lomond, the 9,716-foot peak behind the city motto, "A treasure in Ben Lomond's shadow." About 11,400 people live here (U.S. Census Bureau, July 2025 estimate). If you're thinking about buying or selling here, this is what everyday life looks like.

Getting Around

Pleasant View covers about 7 square miles and is part of the Ogden–Clearfield metro area. Drivers reach I-15 at the 2700 North exit. FrontRunner commuter rail stopped at Pleasant View from 2008 until service was suspended in 2018. Today the nearest station is Ogden Central. For commute details, see my Pleasant View homes and community guide.

City Parks

Pleasant View City lists four parks with a bowery (a covered picnic shelter):

  • Barker Park, on Elberta Drive between 500 and 600 West, next to City Hall
  • Pleasant View Park, on Pleasant View Drive at about 855 W, home to the city's 10 pickleball courts
  • Shady Lane Park, at about 600 W 3000 N
  • Wadman Nature Park, at about 385 W 4300 N

The Barker, Shady Lane and Wadman boweries can be reserved from May through September.

Trails and the Outdoors

The Bonneville Shoreline Trail's section between Pleasant View and the North Ogden Divide is about 4.6 miles one way and rated moderate. Its gravel trailhead parking is at the east end of 4600 North, off 350 East. For a bigger day, the trail from the North Ogden trailhead to the Ben Lomond summit is about 9 miles. As an avid hiker, camper and hunter, I can tell you the mountains here are a big part of why people stay.

Golf

The Barn Golf Club is a public 18-hole course in Pleasant View. It opened in 1965 and was designed by Keith Downs.

Founders Day

Founders Day on June 27, 2026 marked the city's 175th anniversary. The week included a pickleball tournament at the Pleasant View Park courts and Heritage Night at Shady Lane Park. The day itself had a 5K and pancake breakfast, a parade along Pleasant View Drive, a car show and salmon bake at Shady Lane Park, and fireworks at Barker Park. Check Pleasant View City for each year's schedule.

Schools

Pleasant View is part of the Weber School District. Orchard Springs Elementary, Lomond View Elementary and Weber High School are all in the city. Junior high students attend North Ogden Junior High or Orion Junior High, depending on their boundary. My Pleasant View schools guide for homebuyers covers this in detail. Always confirm an address with the district's boundary maps.

Library

The closest library is the Weber County Library System's North Branch, at 475 E 2600 N.
