Living in West Haven, Utah
West Haven sits in western Weber County, about 35 miles north of Salt Lake City. Ogden is to the east, Roy to the south, Hooper to the west and Marriott-Slaterville to the north. It's one of the fastest-growing cities in Northern Utah, but it still has the open feel of the farm country it grew out of.
From two farm towns to one city
West Haven became a city on July 1, 1991, when the farming communities of Wilson and Kanesville joined together. Wilson dates to 1854, when four Wilson brothers began farming the area. Kanesville's first settlers arrived in 1868, and the town later took its name from Thomas L. Kane. Today 21st Street is still called Wilson Lane where it meets 1900 West.
A city that keeps growing
In 1990 the area that became West Haven had about 2,200 residents. The 2020 Census counted 16,739. The U.S. Census Bureau's July 2025 estimate puts it at about 25,600. Much of that growth is new subdivisions built on former farmland.
Rivers, trails and open space
The Weber and Ogden Rivers meet in the northeast corner of West Haven. The Weber River Parkway starts in West Haven and runs about 11 miles south to South Weber, mostly paved and mostly flat. One trailhead is at the West Haven Cemetery on 2350 West. Just north of the cemetery, Prevedel Park Campground offers overnight camping right on the trail. Not many cities have that.
City parks
R. Kenneth Baldwin Country Park (2825 W 3300 S) is the main gathering spot. It has two reservable pavilions, a playground and the city's arena. Other city parks include the Sports Park by the city offices on 3900 West, Stonefield Park, Fair Grove Park, Country Haven Park, Staker Park, Sycamore Park, Tuscan Meadows Park and Holmes Estates Park. Each fall, the Happy Pumpkin Corn Maze in West Haven draws families from across Weber County. Every June, the city hosts West Haven Days, with an open rodeo, a parade, a flapjack breakfast, a car show, a concert in the park and fireworks.
Getting around
3300 South connects into Midland Drive, and 21st Street (Wilson Lane) leads east to I-15 and Ogden. The drive to Hill Air Force Base is about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the gate you use. If you're stationed at Hill, I'm glad to time the drive from any home to your gate.
Schools
West Haven is served by Weber School District. West Field High School opened in western Weber County for the 2024-25 school year, and the district redrew its high school boundaries to fill it. If schools matter to your move, check the district's boundary lookup for the exact address before you buy. I'm happy to help you confirm it. For every school's address, grades and website, see my guide to West Haven, Utah Schools.
